To nurses involved with Ukrainian people, pregnant women, child-rearing women, and women

Sharing experience and knowledge of disaster nursing in Japan

Japan is a country where natural disasters such as earthquakes occur frequently, and we have been accumulating lessons from the experiences of disasters that have occurred in the past. We have compiled a document on health-conscious support for pregnant women, women after childbirth, and women in evacuation situations during a disaster. These experiences and knowledge are created based on books and literature on disaster nursing, the website of the Japanese government and professional associations, and other sources. Natural disasters and wars do not have the same causes. However, as a common outcome, on any one-day people's lives, health, life, and social environment can be damaged or completely destroyed, which causes sudden stress both physically and mentally and makes it difficult to live every day. We believe that the nursing profession plays a major role in helping in difficult situations that people living in Ukraine and neighboring countries are currently experiencing. We hope that this material will help nurses reduce the negative impacts on their lives, health and livelihoods as pregnant women, mothers and children and women in the midst of great difficulties cope with evacuation situations. We would like to deliver our experience to help as many people as possible. This material was created by a faculty member of Maternal Nursing & Midwifery, School of Nursing, Hyogo Medical University, Japan. (Since this is a material created in a hurry, it may not be possible to express it accurately in English. We apologize if there are any errors to express in English in the material.)
